Running
Watsonville and Aptos locals stole the show at the 22nd
Annual Aptos Women’s Five Miler Footrace Sunday.
Ramona Young (31:43) and Angela Hernandez (33:29), both
Watsonville residents, took first and third place respectively,
while Kristen Dowell (32:13) of Aptos took third.
The race, sponsored by the Santa Cruz Track Club, had 330
runners.
Although Gary Cohen of Apopka, Fla., won the main event at
the 22nd Annual Forest of Nisene Marks Marathon, two local
runners captured the Half Marathon and 5K run.
Pat Williams won the Half Marathon in a time of 1:23:12,
while Tim Nash took the 5K in 17:00.
Martin Brenner (3:14:35), Peter Huemer (3:29:16),
Kevin Shannon (3:31:02), and Peter Fish (3:31:08) were among
some of the locals who finished in the top 10 in the men’s
division of the main event.
Amy Nesbit of Monterey won the marathon in the women’s
division, finishing 10th overall with a new course record of
3:31:55.
